Motivating the Manufacturers of Tomorrow
Changing Minds About Manufacturing Careers.

In the Plattsburgh area, Manufacturing Day was hosted by the new Institute for Advanced Manufacturing at Clinton Community College. Area high school students took an interactive tour through the new facility where they learned about different equipment, programs and career pathways associated with manufacturing from IAM instructors and industry representatives. The event filled to capacity with six schools and more than 200 students participating. The program was coordinated by a committee that includes Adirondack P-Tech, CITEC Business Solutions, Clinton Community College, The Development Corporation, ETS, Inc. and Workforce Development Board.
Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties again coordinated with BOCES to send more than 1,100 students from 33 different schools on in-house tours of 20 different companies. Regional MFG Day events were coordinated through a partnership between CITEC Business Solutions, Potsdam; BOCES; Clarkson University; North Country STEM Learning Network; Jefferson County Economic Development; Lewis County Economic Development; and the St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Authority.
Studies by the nonprofit Manufacturing Institute and others show that almost 80 percent of Americans believe manufacturing is important to our economic prosperity, standard of living and national security, yet only 30 percent would encourage their children to go into a manufacturing career. Manufacturing Day aims to change that.
