A Kaizen event or Rapid Improvement Sprint improves an existing process by implementing a planned solution over a short period of time, typically three to five days.
There is no one-size-fits-all solution to manufacturing challenges, so every Kaizen Event or Rapid Improvement Sprint is going to look different. Typically these events are needed when:
- A problem arises, such as an increase in defects, a failed certification, or a major customer complaint
- A target changes, such as a need to increase production
- Other small or regular improvements have not yielded the expected results
- There is consensus that there is a better way to accomplish something, but that will take some changes to achieve
The event may take several forms, but one potential agenda involves:
- Clearly stating the problem to be solved
- Identifying the root causes of the problem
- Engaging stakeholders in developing the solution
- Clarifying what the results will/should be
- Developing a solution
- Implementing the solution
- Reviewing/adjusting/monitoring
Each step in the process may employ different tools and/or may involve additional training.
CITEC's business advisors have decades of industry experience and will find the right approach to develop and implement these kinds of quick and effective solutions with your team.
